HOUSTON – Despite three scorers in double figures, the University of Houston Women's Basketball team fell 70-62 against Southern inside the Fertitta Center on Sunday.

Junior forward Jorynn Ross posted her best outing of the season, tallying a season-high 13 points with seven from the free throw line, followed by graduate guard Briana Peguero finishing with 10 points. Senior guard TK Pitts notched a career-high six assists.
After a 4-4 tie to start the game, Southern (3-5) quickly hopped on a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 11-4. Houston responded with an 8-3 run to cut the deficit to two, but the Jaguars scored four-straight points to lead 18-12 at the end of the first.
Both teams gained momentum offensively to start the second, trading buckets to a Southern 26-19 lead. Houston sparked a quick 5-0 run to trail by two, holding the gap close late into the period. The Jaguars closed out the final three minutes of the half with a 9-2 run, taking a 38-29 lead into the break.
Entering the third quarter, both teams found themselves frequently at the line in a physical battle down low. The Cougars flipped momentum their way with a 6-0 run by Ross alone, bringing the deficit to 49-44 late in the quarter. Southern bounced back to fire off a quick 7-2 run to close out the period and regain a 10-point advantage at 58-48 heading into the fourth.
The Jaguars extended their lead to 15 points thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers to start the quarter. A late charge pulled the gap to within single digits, but it was not enough as Houston fell 70-62.
