Houston Swimming & Diving Completes First Day of Phill Hansel Invitational

Cougars earn two first-place finishes, one zone cut
HOUSTON – University of Houston Swimming & Diving completed the first day of its annual Phill Hansel Invitational landing five podiums, one zone cut, and two first place finishes on Wednesday evening at CWRC Natatorium.
The Cougars are in first place with 449 points followed by Rice (332.5), Nevada (283), Florida Gulf Coast (260), Tulane (217), Air Force (207), Colorado State (198), New Mexico State (176), San Jose State (133), New Mexico (106) and Vanderbilt (85).
The 400-yard medley relay team of sophomore Alexia Duncan, junior Evelyn Entrekin, senior Noor El Gendy and senior Liya Goupil also touched the wall in the top spot in 3:34.99.
Entrekin had an impressive showing in the 200 individual medley landing a first-place finish with her time of 1:58.36. Her time earned her a personal best and the fourth place spot on the top 10 list. Duncan also made waves in the event with her third place finish (1:59.00). Her time was also personal best and good for a fifth place spot on the top 10 list.
Two additional top-10 list performances were recorded by senior Jenna Kerkman and freshman Emma Overall. Kerkman is now tied for eighth place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.08 alongside Maddie McCord (2013) and Maija Airas (1988). Overall cracked the 500-yard freestyle top-10 list with her time of 4:48.17 for 10th place.
The 200-yard relay team of Goupil, Kerkman, sophomore Sienna Bruner and junior Elizabeth Jimenez finished third with a time of 1:30.94.
In the 1-meter diving event, junior Michelle McLeod led the way for the Cougars landing a second-place finish (285.85). Sophomore Caroline Roelen placed fifth followed by freshman Maisy Woloszyn in sixth. Roelen landed her second zone cut of the season in the preliminary events with a score of 274.55.
