Cougars close homestand with 6:30 p.m. meeting against Owls

HOUSTON – After winning its first two games of the season, the University of Houston Women's Basketball program closes its first homestand of the season when it hosts Rice at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, for Houston Heroes Night inside Fertitta Center.

PROMOTIONS

Tuesday's game theme is Houston Heroes Night in honor of Veterans Day.
Veterans can receive free admission to the game using VET TIX.
The first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free Houston Women's Basketball camo t-shirt.
Clothing/Food Drive in partnership with Sigma Nu. Help support the Houston community by donating the following items: Cold weather clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, shoes, socks, non-perishable foods, water and other useful items. Fans can drop off donations at the Holman Street entrance.
2025-26 schedule posters are also available at the marketing table.
Aisha Osagie will perform the national anthem
Stay after the game for postgame autographs with freshman forward Jade Jones.

THE GAME

Tuesday marks the 61st all-time meeting between Houston and Rice.
The Cougars lead the all-time series, 48-12.
Rice won the last meeting, 60-48 at Tudor Fieldhouse (Nov. 14, 2024).
This marks the first meeting between Head Coaches Matthew Mitchell and Lindsay Edmonds.
Mitchell is 1-0 against Rice. He faced the Owls during the 2015-16 season at Kentucky (W, 72-39).
Rice is Houston's second American Athletic Conference opponent of the season (UTSA).

LAST TIME OUT

A 21-point performance by Kierra Merchant lifted Houston to a 52-48 victory over UTSA at the Fertitta Center on Saturday.
Merchant led the Cougars in scoring with 21 points and eight rebounds, marking her fourth 20+ point performance of her career.
Amirah Abdur-Rahim tallied nine points and 11 rebounds, earning her seventh-career outing with double-digit boards.
TK Pitts was also active inside the arc, notching four points and 10 rebounds for her sixth-career 10+ rebound performance, sitting one shy of her career high.
The Cougars improved to 23-1 all-time against the Roadrunners.
