
Swimming & Diving Finishes Day One of the Houston Diving Invitational, Rice Fall Splash

Cougars earn two diving zone cuts, three first place finishes
HOUSTON – The Houston Swimming & Diving team opened its season with three event victories at the Houston Diving Invitational and Rice Fall Splash on Friday.
After one day of competition, Rice leads with 463 points, followed by Houston (461) and TCU (353).
HOUSTON DIVING INVITATIONAL
Junior Michelle McLeod started the first day of competition off strong with victories in the 1-meter (289.80) and 3-meter (301.20) springboard diving competitions. McLeod also earned Zone Cuts in both events.
Sophomore Caroline Roelen and freshmen Maisy Woloszyn finished side-by-side taking fourth (237.40) and fifth (234.85) in the 1-meter competition. They took third and fourth in the 3-meter with Roelen scoring 266.65 and Woloszyn scoring 265.00.
RICE FALL SPLASH
Junior Elizabeth Jimenez finished the day taking first place (54.44) in the 100-yard backstroke and sophomore Alexia Duncan placed fourth (56.33) in the event.
Junior Evelyn Entrekin and Senior Virag Peter finished second (1:02.01) and fourth (1:03.72) in the 100-yard breaststroke, respectively. Seniors Noor El Gendy and Liya Goupil also landed podium finishes with El Gendy taking second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.33) and Goupil placing third in the 100-yard freestyle (51.53).
Competing in the longest event of the day, sophomore Mariana Cote touched the wall in second in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:07.66).
The 200-yard medley relay team of Jimenez, Entrekin, El Gendy and Goupil took second place (1:42.92) while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Goupil, Sienna Bruner, El Gendy and Entrekin finished third (1:35.70).

Houston continues competition Saturday at the Houston Diving Invitational and Rice Fall Splash. The divers will begin competition at 10:30 a.m. at CRWC Natatorium while the swimmers begin at 10 a.m. at the Rice Competition Pool.
