Climie Named Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year

Third baseman tabbed the best newcomer in Big 12 preseason coaches poll
HOUSTON – University of Houston Baseball junior third baseman Cade Climie was named the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year by the league's coaches on Thursday.

Climie, who won the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship with Blinn Junior College, hit .394 for the Buccaneers in his only year with the program while driving in 74 across 59 games. The Sugar Land, Texas, native sprayed 23 doubles and two triples in 2024 while clubbing 20 home runs.

The third baseman has garnered national recognition leading up to the season, being named the No. 6 draft prospect in the Big 12 for the 2025 MLB Draft (No. 64 nationally) by D1Baseball.com. The publication also named Climie the #1 Junior College transfer hitter in the nation this season.

Perfect Game named Climie to the Big 12 All-Preseason team at third base earlier this week.

The Seven Lakes High School graduate accumulated 29 multi-hit games and 18 multi-RBI games for Blinn last season.

The Big 12 coaches also voted and predict Oklahoma State to win the league. Houston was picked to finish 11th out of 14 teams.
