Cougars split for H-E-B Invite and ITA All-American Championships
WACO, Texas & CARY, N.C. – The University of Houston Tennis team opens fall action as select student-athletes head to Waco, Texas, for the H-E-B Invite beginning Friday at the Hurd Tennis Center, and fifth-year Santa Strombacha travels to the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, N.C.
Juniors Gabriela Cortes and Sophie Schouten and sophomores Valeriia Krokhotina and Iva Sepa will compete against Baylor, Nebraska, Rice, UTSA, Colorado, Texas A&M, Illinois, Arizona and SMU.
Strombacha was one of the 128 student-athletes selected for the ITA All-American Championships. She will learn her schedule on Sunday.
The H-E-B Invitational opens Friday with doubles beginning at 9 a.m. followed by singles at 10 a.m. The Cougars will close the day with another round of doubles beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Saturday's schedule will follow Friday's format. The invitational concludes on Sunday with doubles play at 9 a.m., followed by singles.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
The Cougars welcome five transfer student-athletes to Houston, with all of them coming from Division I programs. Valeriia Krokhotina, Elizaveta Morozova, Iva Sepa and Santa Strombacha come from Grand Canyon, while Heta Nuutinen moved from McNeese.
Juniors Gabriela Cortes and Sophie Schouten return from Houston's inaugural season in the Big 12 Conference.
