
Women’s Golf Finishes Third at Bettie Lou Evans Invitational

Junior Alexa Saldana tied for sixth at 219; Moa Svedenskiold, Annika Ishiyama join her among Top-20 leaders
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – University of Houston junior Alexa Saldana posted a three-day score of 219 to tie for sixth and lead the Cougars during the Final Round of the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational on Champion Trace course at Keene Trace Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.
The Mexico City native tied with Anna Ritter (Illinois), Madison Dabagia (Indiana) and Kendall Maynard (Middle Tennessee) in the final individual standings.
As a team, the Cougars recorded a total of 888 and finished third on the 6,245-yard, par-72 course. TCU captured the team championship with a score of 871 while host Kentucky was second at 883.
Junior Moa Svedenskiold and freshman Annika Ishiyama – making her collegiate debut – joined Saldana among the Top-20 leaders.
A two-time All-Conference star, Svedenskiold moved up to 17th at 222 after posting a 74 Tuesday while Ishiyama tied for 18th at 224.
Sophomore Maelynn Kim joined Svedenskiold with a Final-Round 74 and rose seven places into a tie for 30th at 227 while sophomore Ellen Yates climbed into a tie for 37th at 230. Playing as an individual, junior Natalie Saint Germain finished 67th with a two-round total of 151.
Louisville (891), Illinois (893), Washington State (894), Indiana (905), Missouri (907), Middle Tennessee (910) and Eastern Kentucky (931) completed the Top 10.
Washington State's Alice Johansson captured medalist honors with a score of 4-under 212 to finish one shot ahead of TCU's Kirstin Angosta. Sofia Barroso Sa (TCU) and Elin Pudas Remler (Kentucky) tied for third at 216 with Kentucky's Marta Lopez finishing fifth at 217.

The Cougars continue their fall schedule when they tee off at the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla., on Sept. 21-23.

From there, the Cougars compete at the Illini Invitational at Medinah at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill., on Oct. 7-8 A year ago, Houston tied for fourth in this event as Svedenskiold tied for sixth at 5-under 211, thanks to her seventh eighth and ninth straight rounds of par or better to open the year.
Houston closes their fall campaign at the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas, on Oct. 2020-21. The Cougars finished third at the 2023 tournament with Kim tying for ninth at 9-under 207, thanks to a 68 in the Final Round.
