
Women’s Golf in Second after Schooner Fall Classic First Round

Freshman Annika Ishiyama tied for sixth to lead four Cougars among Top 20 leaders; Second Round begins Sunday morning


As a team, Houston finished the first day with a score of 4-under 276 to stand three shots back of leader Auburn. TCU (-3), Iowa State (-1), Wisconsin (282), Oklahoma (283), Florida State (284), Tulane (285), North Texas (286) and Tulsa (287) rounded out the Top 10.
Starting her day off No. 10, Ishiyama started her day with an eagle on the par-4 10th hole and quickly moved to 3-under with a birdie on the next hole.
She overcame a bogey at No. 15 and drained a pair of birdies on her second nine to finish with a 68.
Kim and Saint Germain were tied for 12th at 1-under 69. Like Ishiyama, Kim erupted out of the starting gates with birdies on back-to-back holes and added a birdie at No. 2 to finish with a 69.
Saint Germain overcame a bogey on her first nine with a birdie to start her second nine and drained her second birdie of the day at No. 7 to finish with a 69.
Junior Moa Svedenskiold was tied for 28th at 73.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Ellen Yates was tied for 88th at 80.
The tournament continues with the Second Round beginning at 8:30 a.m., Sunday, and the Final Round teeing off at 9 a.m., Monday.

Sunday's Second Round begins at 8:30 a.m. Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Auburn and TCU beginning off No. 1 at 10:10 a.m.
Svedenskiold begins the day for the Cougars at 10:10 a.m., with Saldana (10:20 a.m.), Kim (10:30 a.m.), Saint Germain (10:40 a.m.) and Ishiyama (10:50 a.m.) following. Yates begins her Second Round at 8:30 a.m., off No. 10.

SCHOONER FALL CLASSIC HISTORY
This marks the fourth consecutive season in which the Cougars will compete at the Schooner Fall Classic and the fifth time in the last six years (2020 event was not held due to COVID pandemic).
Houston is coming off back-to-back fourth-place finishes in its two most recent appearances.
A year ago, Houston posted a score of 2-under 838, thanks to three straight rounds of par or lower from Svedenskiold, including 67s in the First and Final Rounds, and a career-low 66 from Kim in the First Round.
At the 2022 Schooner Fall Classic, Saint Germain tied for 10th with a score of 3-under 207 and set a school record with a 6-under 64 in the Final Round in only her second collegiate event.
UP NEXT
The Cougars continue their fall schedule when they compete at the Illini Invitational at Medinah at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill., on Oct. 7-8.
A year ago, Houston tied for fourth in this event as Svedenskiold tied for sixth at 5-under 211, thanks to her seventh eighth and ninth straight rounds of par or better to open the year.
Houston closes its fall campaign at the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas, on Oct. 20-21.
The Cougars finished third at the 2023 tournament with Kim tying for ninth at 9-under 207, thanks to a 68 in the Final Round.
