PREVIEW: Houston Welcomes UTSA Thursday For First Responders Night

HOUSTON – The University of Houston soccer team returns home to face UTSA at 7 p.m., Thursday for First Responders Night, at the Carl Lewis International Complex. All First Responders in attendance will receive a free UH flag hat.

LAST TIME OUT
Houston (1-2-1) collected its first win of the season with a 1-0 victory at Tarleton State on Sunday. The Cougars took 20 shots with 14 of them being on target, while the defense held the Texans without a shot until the 65th minute, only allowing four in the match.

ABOUT THE COUGARS

Houston is in its third season under Head Coach Jaime Frias.
The Cougars return their two leading scorers in junior forward Cameryn Maddox and sophomore midfielder Aryanna Jimison
Jimison was named to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team, marking the first player in program history to garner Big 12 preseason honors.
Houston welcomes 11 newcomers to the roster, including seven freshmen and four transfers.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Dietrich is top 10 in program history in career wins (sixth), games started by a goalie (seventh), ties (fifth) and saves (ninth).
Junior midfielder Cameryn Maddox is five goals away from entering the top-10 in program history in career goals scored.

SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS

UTSA is led by Derek Pittman, who is in his seventh season leading the Roadrunners. He is 49-43-16 in his six seasons in San Antonio.
The Roadrunners are 3-1 on the season.
In its last match, UTSA defeated St. Mary's 1-0, and set Pittman's 100th career win, and just one win away from hitting his 50th at UTSA.

Houston and UTSA meet for the 10th time.
The Cougars won the previous meeting in Houston, 1-0 (Oct 2, 2022).
Houston leads the series 5-3-1, with the Cougars not recording a loss since 2009.
