Guard Eylia Love joins Cougars after spending seasons at Georgia Tech, Louisville
HOUSTON – University of Houston Women's Basketball Head Coach Ronald Hughey announced his fourth transfer as the Cougars signed guard Eylia Love from Louisville on Tuesday.
"We are very excited and extremely blessed to add Eylia to our program," Hughey said. "Eylia brings leadership and NCAA tournament experience to Houston. She is an extremely versatile player who can play multiple positions. Her unique blend of skill, toughness and athleticism will help take our program to the next level. She is a difference-maker on both ends of the floor and will make an immediate impact for us. She is an aggressive lockdown defender who fits our style of play and will be a great fit for our program and culture here at Houston."
A 6'1 guard out of Kansas City, Kan., Love transferred to Louisville in spring 2023, where she played 31 games with the Cardinals during the 2023-24 season. She recorded her second career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds against North Carolina A&T.
Love began her collegiate career at Georgia Tech, spending three and a half seasons with the Yellow Jackets. During the 2023 season, Love played in 13 games and made eight starts before her move to Louisville.
During the 2021-22 season for the Yellow Jackets, Love played in all 32 games and made 31 starts. She averaged 10.5 points per game, which ranked third on the team. Love had 16 games with double-figure scoring numbers, including seven with 15+ points. She was named to the 2021-22 All-ACC Academic Team.
As a freshman, Love played in 26 games and earned two starts. She averaged 4.5 points and 3.1 rebounds and saw action in all three 2021 NCAA Tournament games as the Yellow Jackets advanced to the Sweet 16.
Love was a four-star prospect out of Olathe North High School. She was ranked No. 64 overall and No. 12 in her position by Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. Love was a team captain her senior year and was selected to the 6A First Team All-State. She was a McDonald's All-American and Gatorade Player of the Year nominee.
