Tennis Falls to #74 Kansas State on Senior Day

Houston heads to Kansas and Iowa State for final regular season matches
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program fell to #74 Kansas State, 4-1, in its final home match of the season at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility on Sunday.
DOUBLES
Doubles action needed all three courts after sophomores Sonya Kovalenko and Sophie Schouten fell to Veronika Kalhava and Tereza Polakova, 6-2.
On court three, senior Blanca Cortijo Parreno and junior Elena Trencheva took down Jilliam Harkin and Manami Ukita, 6-4, to force a winner-take-all on court two.
The Cougars (2-16, 0-11 Big 12) captured their third doubles point in Big 12 Conference action when junior Maria Dzemeshkevich and senior Laura Slisane defeated Maria Santos and Maralgoo Chomsomjav, 6-4.
SINGLES
The Wildcats (10-10, 4-8 Big 12) responded as Polakova fought off two set points to take the match, 7-5, 7-5, over Cortijo Parreno.
On court one, Dzemeshkevich fell to Charlotte Keitel, 6-4, 6-4, to give Kansas State the lead.
After being down, 5-1, sophomore Gabriela Cortes rattled off three-straight points in the second set before falling to Santos, 6-3, 6-4.
The final three courts each needed a third set, but Kansas State clinched the match on court six as Ukita defeated Trencheva, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.

Houston wraps up the regular season on the road when it heads to #56 Kansas at 5 p.m., Friday, at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence, Kan., with the season finale against Iowa State at 10 a.m., Sunday, April 14, from the Forker Tennis Courts in Ames, Iowa.
The Cougars await the final seeding arrangements for the Big 12 Tennis Championship, April 17-20, at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.
