Tennis Drops Road Contest at #54 Kansas

Houston heads to Iowa State at 10 a.m., Sunday for the regular season finale
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Houston Tennis program dropped its road contest to #54 Kansas, 4-0, at the Jayhawk Tennis Center on Friday.
DOUBLES
In doubles on court one, senior Laura Slisane and junior Maria Dzemeshkevich fell to Maria Titova and Gracie Mulville, 6-3.
Kansas (9-12, 6-6 Big 12) clinched the doubles point as Heike Janse Van Vuuren and Jasmine Adams defeated sophomores Sophie Schouten and Gabriela Cortes, 6-4.
SINGLES
The Jayhawks doubled their lead on court four when Kyoka Kubo handled junior Elena Trencheva, 6-1, 6-1.
After being shut out in the first set and down 5-0 in the second, Dzemeshkevich staved off three set points before dropping the match to Mulville, 6-0, 6-3.
Kansas clinched the match on court two when Slisane fell to Titova, 6-2, 6-2.
Senior Blanca Cortijo Parreno and Schouten each got out to a 2-1 lead in set one on their respective courts, but dropped the set, 7-5. Cortes was the lone Cougar (2-17, 0-12 Big 12) to win a set, taking her opening frame, 6-4, over Maria Silva Costache.

Houston heads to Ames, Iowa for the regular season finale against Iowa State at 10 a.m., Sunday, at the Forker Tennis Courts.
The Cougars will await the final seeding arrangements for the Big 12 Tennis Championship, April 17-20, at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.
