Cougars host #74 Kansas State on Sunday for Senior Day
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program dropped a 4-0 decision to #1 Oklahoma State at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility on Friday.
The Cougars (2-15, 0-10 Big 12) will host #74 Kansas State for the final home game of the season. Prior to Sunday's matchup with the Wildcats (9-9, 3-7 Big 12) Houston will recognize seniors Blanca Cortijo Parreno and Laura Slisane for their accomplishments with the Cougars. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the senior ceremony beginning at 10:30 a.m.
DOUBLES
Houston battled in doubles play as sophomore duo Sonya Kovalenko and Sophie Schouten held an early 2-1 lead before falling to No. 4 doubles pair Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru, 6-3.
Oklahoma State (22-0, 11-0 Big 12) claimed the doubles point when Safiya Carrington and Kristina Novak defeated junior Elena Tencheva and sophomore Gabriela Cortes, 6-3.
SINGLES
The Cowgirls doubled their lead on court four as No. 85 Ayumi Miyamoto defeated Cortijo Parreno, 6-1, 6-0.
On court three, Schouten fell to No. 63 Carrington, 6-2, 6-0.
Oklahoma clinched the match when No. 4 Kajuru fended off Slisane on court two, 6-4, 6-0.
In an abandoned match, junior Maria Dzemeshkevich took the first set against No. 11 Komar, and held a 2-1 lead in the second set.
UP NEXT
Houston wraps up the regular season when it heads to #56 Kansas at 5 p.m., Friday, April 12, at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence, Kan. The regular season finale is against Iowa State at 10 a.m., Sunday, April 14, from the Forker Tennis Courts in Ames, Iowa.
The Cougars await the final seeding arrangements for the Big 12 Tennis Championship, April 17-20, at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.
