Beautae tied Houston’s single-game record with four runs while Solis spun a one-hitter in the circle
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team excelled on both sides of the ball in an 8-0, six-inning, run-rule shutout of Texas Tech at Cougar Softball Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Gigi Solis (1-0) spun Houston's (24-25, 4-19 Big 12) third one-hitter of the season to earn her first collegiate win while also striking out two. The win clinched Houston's third solo shutout effort this season. Olivia Rains (6-2) took the loss for Texas Tech (27-17, 7-13 Big 12) in the circle, allowing four runs (three earned) in two innings.

Key Innings
1st | Houston grabbed the early lead on Saturday. Back-to-back singles from Beautae and Rollin put two on for Houston and both reached scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from Coleman. Cantu drove home Beautae with a ground out while Rollin came home on a wild pitch to put the Cougars up by two.
3rd | The Cougars added another pair of runs in the third. Beautae doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch, then scored as Rollin singled through the left side. After advancing to second on an error on a pickoff attempt, Rollin would also come around to score as Coleman laced a single to center field.
4th | Houston plated another two in the fourth, both on wild pitches. Both graduate Paige Hulsey, who reached on a hit-by-pitch, and Cantu, who reached on a walk, crossed the plate on a pair of wild throws by the Red Raider pitcher.
6th | The Cougars clinched the walk-off win with its fourth showing of two runs in an inning. Reaching third on a double and wild pitch, Beautae scored her fourth run of the game on a Rollin double to left center. Freshman Jordee Wilkins sealed the 8-0, run-rule win by scoring on a Cantu ground out.
UP NEXT
Houston concludes the series against Texas Tech at noon, Sunday. The team will recognize its remaining four seniors (Jazmyn Rollin, Kennedy Thomas, Shelby Smith and Bree Cantu) in a ceremony prior to the game.
