Cougars come up short against Sooners on Friday night
NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Houston Softball team dropped the series opener to #2/#2 Oklahoma, 8-0, in six innings at Love's Field on Friday night.
Graduate Taylor Edwards (3-2) received the loss in the circle for Houston (23-21, 3-16 Big 12), allowing three runs in two innings. Oklahoma's (40-4, 16-3 Big 12) Kelly Maxwell (14-1) spun five scoreless innings to pick up the victory.

1st | Oklahoma jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. A walk and a single set up a three-run home run from Alynah Torres.
3rd | The Sooners added another run to their advantage in the third. A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases while a ground out pushed a run across for Oklahoma.
4th | With runners on the corners, Oklahoma's Torres dropped down a sacrifice bunt for her fourth RBI of the game. Two batters later, a designed double steal allowed another Sooner runner to cross, pushing Oklahoma's edge to six runs.
6th | Oklahoma clinched a run-rule win in the sixth inning. After loading the bases with one out, a pitch-clock violation completed a walk that forced a runner home and the Sooners immediately followed it up with a single that pushed the decisive run across, sealing an 8-0 win for Oklahoma.

Houston continues its three-game set against Oklahoma with a 6 p.m. start on Saturday. The series wraps up with a 1 p.m., Sunday, finale. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
