Cougars tip off vs. Knights at 6 p.m. (CST) Wednesday, inside Addition Financial Arena in Orlando
ORLANDO, Fla. – Winners of 12 of its last 13 games, the #1/1 University of Houston Men's Basketball program meets UCF in its final regular-season road game at 6 p.m. (CST) Wednesday, inside Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Fla.
The Cougars begin the final week of the regular season with a one-game lead over Iowa State with two games remaining.
Houston enters Wednesday's game following a tough 87-85 win over rv/rv Oklahoma inside Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla., on Saturday night.
Senior guard LJ Cryer led the Cougars with 23 points and five 3-pointers while senior forward J'Wan Roberts added 20 points and five rebounds in the win. With the score tied late, senior point guard Jamal Shead buried a short baseline jumper with 0.4 seconds left to lift the Cougars to the win.
This season, Cryer leads the Cougars and ranks eighth in the Big 12 with 15.5 points per game. The Morton Ranch High School product also leads the league with 3.0 3-pointers per game and is among the Big 12 Top 10 in field goal percentage (40.8, 8th) and 3-point field goal percentage (38.8, 5th).
Roberts leads the Cougars and ranks sixth in the Big 12 with 6.9 rebounds per game. The St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, native is one of only three student-athletes to rank among the league's Top-10 leaders in both offensive and defensive rebounding and has grabbed 6+ rebounds in 21 games this season.
Shead has been recognized as one of the nation's elite point guards in 2023-24. The Manor, Texas, native was named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award earlier this week and is the only student-athlete in the country to rank among the Top-20 individual leaders in assists per game (6.1, 19th), steals per game (2.3, 14th) AND assist-turnover ratio (3.11, 19th).
He became the first Cougar in program history to record 100+ wins, 1,200+ points, 600+ assists and 200+ steals during his career and is the only Cougar to record a points-rebounds AND points-assists double-double in 2023-24.
