
Houston Finishes Second at Team's Inaugural Big 12 Conference Championships

Cougars earn runner-up status at team’s first Big 12 Championships
ORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team finished in second place at its first championships as members of the Big 12 Conference on Saturday evening. Finishing only behind Texas (2,092), Houston (1,266.5) bested TCU (1,215.5) as the only teams to break 1,000 points at the league championship meet.
On the final day of the meet, Sophomore Virag Peter led the way for Houston, as she clinched a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.76. Junior Henrietta Fangli took the top spot in the B-Finals with a 2:11.38 to finish 9th while fifth-year Audrey McKinnon clinched a NCAA B-Cut with a 2:13.52 in 12th place. In the C-Finals, freshman Evelyn Entrekin took 17th with a 2:14.48 and senior Sophie Anderson clinched 19th with a 2:15.68.
Houston's 400-yard freestyle relay team of junior Mary Catherine Jurica, sophomore Liya Goupil, senior Anna Ervin and sophomore Noor El Gendy finished in sixth with a 3:23.66.
Representing the Cougars in the championship flight, fifth-year Chase Farris took eighth place in the 3-meter (313.00). In the consolation flight, freshman Michelle McLeod clinched ninth with a 317.45 while senior Emilia Waters (298.30), senior Hedda Grelz (295.65) and sophomore Alexa Massari (265.00) finished in 11th, 12th and 15th, respectively.
Senior Danielle Titus used a time of 1:58.67 to earn eighth place in the 200-yard backstroke. Behind her, freshmen Nora Hetyei and Elizabeth Jimenez tied for 14th, each posting a time of 2:00.45. Sophomore Landry Hadder capped Houston's contingent in the event with a 23rd place time of 2:02.42.
Jurica (50.65) and Goupil (50.77) took 15th and 22nd in the 100-yard freestyle, respectively, while sophomore Eden Humphrey (16:48.34) finished eighth and senior Maddie Wallin (17:10.03) earned 16th in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
