Swimming & Diving Finishes Day One at Big 12 Conference Championships

Cougars place in top six in both relay events of the day
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team concluded the first day of competition at the Big 12 Conference Championships at the Mylan Park Aquatic Center on Tuesday.Â

Houston's relay of Elizabeth Jimenez, Henrietta Fangli, Abbie Alvarez and Mary Catherine Jurica took fifth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.06.

In the only other event of the day, the Cougars finished sixth in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Liya Goupil, Jurica, Eden Humphrey and Megan Unruh swam a 7:19.21 time, narrowly missing out on host West Virginia's fifth place finish (7:19.14).

UP NEXT
The Cougars continue competition at the Big 12 Championships on Wednesday. Preliminary heats begin at 9 a.m. CT with finals beginning at 5 p.m. CT. Wednesday's events include the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley and 50-yard freestyle. It will also include the team diving event, an exhibition event at this year's championship.Â
