Houston heads to Fort Worth to face TCU at 6 p.m., Saturday
HOUSTON – Despite attempting a second-half comeback, the University of Houston Women's Basketball program fell against Iowa State, 76-64, on Wednesday evening inside Fertitta Center.
Defensively, Houston (13-13, 4-11 Big 12) caused havoc by forcing Iowa State (15-10, 8-6 Big 12) into 18 turnovers. Graduate guard Britney Onyeje led the team in steals, recording four of the Cougars' 14 picks.
Onyeje and graduate forward Bria Patterson aided a Houston 10-2 run with a pair of threes in the first quarter. Iowa State kept the quarter close with a 3-pointer to take the 18-17 lead.
The Cougars ran into offensive troubles midway through the second quarter, going only 1-for-15 from the field. The Cyclones were in the driver's seat, led by freshman center Audi Crooks, who scored nine of her 25 points to give Iowa State the 44-23 lead at halftime.
Houston and Iowa State traded buckets coming out of the locker room. After making two treys of her own, redshirt senior guard Shalexxus Aaron assisted on a pair of fastbreak 3-pointers to get Houston within 12 points. Offensively, Houston shot 45.5% from outside the arc.
Although Houston outscored Iowa State 41-32 in the second half, it was not enough to walk away with the victory.
