Cougars Earn Two Second Place Finishes on Ohio State Winter Invite Day One

Kerkman and Casten place second in the 50 free and 500 free, respectively
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four members of the University of Houston Swimming & Diving Team wrapped up the first day of competition at the Ohio State Winter Invitational on Friday night.

Sophomore Gigi Casten made it to the A-Final in the 500-yard freestyle where she placed second with 5:01.86.Â

Three Cougars made it back to finals in the 50-yard freestyle, including two in the A-Final. Sophomore Jenna Kerkman earned a second-place finish with a 23.49 and freshman Tierney Howell touched the wall in fifth place with a finish of 23.88. Sophomore Isabella Lojewski earned a place in the B-final and finished in 11th with a time of 23.92.Â

The four are back in action on Saturday. Howell and Lojewski compete in the 100-yard butterfly, Casten and Lojewski in the 200-yard freestyle and Kerkman in the 100-yard breaststroke.
