Houston sends nine student-athletes to Air Force and LSU
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track and Field program will split squads on Friday as it competes at the Air Force Last Chance at Cadet Field House in Air Force Academy, Colo., and LSU Twilight at Carl Maddox Field House in Baton Rouge, La.
Four sprinters will compete in the 60-meter at the Air Force Last Chance. Senior Shaun Maswanganyi, sophomore Louie Hinchliffe and freshmen Cayden Broadnax and King Micah Scales will begin their event at 5:45 p.m. CT.
In Baton Rouge, La., sophomore Zaeda Houff and freshman Paris Kimble will start off the LSU Twilight meet competing in the weight throw at 10 a.m. In the men's weight throw, graduates Ethan Marshall and Lusekelo Mwamukonda will start throwing at 11:30 a.m.
In the 60-meter hurdles, freshmen Logan Lyght will run in the prelims at 1 p.m. with finals scheduled for 2:40 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Houston competed in three meets over the weekend and set multiple school records.
The Cougars recorded a total of six first-place finishes across the weekend, including a first place by senior hurdler De'Vion Wilson in the 60-meter hurdles at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., along with graduate sprinter Sydni Townsend winning the 400-meter at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational with a time of 52.74 to break the indoor school record set in 2014.
Two additional school records were set as senior pole vaulter Christyan Sampy broke his indoor school record when he cleared a height of 5.62 (18'-5.25) meters and graduate distance runner Claire Meyer ran the 5000-meter, crossing the line at 16:11.97.

- Maswanganyi received votes in The Bowerman 2024 Men's Watch List update released by the USTFCCCA on Feb. 8.
- Maswanganyi was named to the 2024 Men's Preseason Watch List for The Bowerman, the USTFCCCA announced on Jan. 9.
- At the Charlie Thomas Invitational, Maswanganyi won the 200-meter dash with the nation's No. 9 time at 20.64, an indoor personal best for the All-American.
- Maswanganyi finished first in the 60-meter with a time of 6.65 at the Ted Nelson Invitational, a time good enough to land him No. 25 in the nation.
- The 10-time NCAA All-American is making his career Watch List debut and is the fourth Houston man to make the Watch List, joining Cameron Burrell (2017, 2018), Elijah Hall (2018) and Kahmari Montgomery (2019).
- In 2023, Maswanganyi earned All-America First-Team honors in the 60-meter dash, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. The senior set the school record in the 100-meter dash at the 2023 NCAA Championships with a time of 9.91.
- At Houston's final American Athletic Conference Championships, Maswanganyi won the Most Valuable Performance award, claiming titles in the 200-meter and 60-meter dash.
- At the Outdoor Conference Championships, Maswanganyi earned first place in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and ran the anchor leg of Houston's ninth-consecutive 400-meter relay title.
