Strombacha heads to Michigan for Championship, rest of team heads across town to Rice
HOUSTON – Fifth-year Santa Strombacha heads to the ITA Sectional Championships at Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, while the rest of the University of Houston tennis team will compete in the Rice Invite at the George R. Brown Tennis Center beginning Thursday.
ITA SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Strombacha opens the Championships against No. 96 Vivian Ovrootsky (Texas) in a rematch of the ITA Regional Championship Quarterfinals in October. Strombacha fell to Ovrootsky, 6-1, 6-2.
The ITA Sectional Championships is the last chance for players to qualify for the 2024 NCAA Individual Championships later this month.
RICE INVITE
Houston opens play at the Rice Invite on Friday with the first and second round of doubles beginning at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., respectively. The opening round of singles action begins at noon.
The Cougars will face student-athletes from Baylor, Iowa State, LSU, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Rice, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UT Arlington, UTRGV and UTSA.
The official draw will be released later this evening.
