PREVIEW: Volleyball Heads to Iowa State

AMES, Iowa – The University of Houston Volleyball team is back on the road, heading to Iowa State for a midweek tilt against the Cyclones. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Wednesday.

Graduate libero Kate Georgiades ranks second in the Big 12 Conference, first in the state of Texas and 20^th nationally with 4.97 digs per set. She's also tallied 24 consecutive matches with double-digit digs.
Graduate setter Annie Cooke is moving up multiple program career record lists. She currently sits in third in service aces (132) and in assists (3,687) in the all-time rankings. She's also played in the fourth most matches (132) and third most sets (488) in program history.
Georgiades is also making moves on Houston record lists. She currently ranks third all-time in digs (2,191) and eighth in aces (107).
Among active NCAA Division I players, Georgiades' collegiate career mark of 2,418 digs is the third most, ranking first among Texas schools and in the Big 12 and sits at seventh across all NCAA divisions. Her 4.70 digs per set average is ninth among active NCAA Division I players, leading the Big 12 while ranking second in Texas.
Houston faces one of the toughest schedules in the country with nine of its opponents currently ranked in the AVCA Top 25.
Freshman Lily Barron ranks 19^th in the nation and first in the Big 12 with 0.51 aces per set.
Houston won the first meeting in the season series against Iowa State in five sets. Graduate Angela Grieve led hitters with 21 kills while Georgiades recorded 27 digs.
The match is a homecoming for Associate Head Coach Caitlin Nolan-Ayeni, who was a standout for Iowa State from 2012-2015. The libero-turned-coach was an All-American in 2015 and was the Big 12 Libero of the Year in 2014 and 2015.
Georgiades earned her fourth career Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honor this week. She tallied 31 digs in a four-set win over Cincinnati last Friday. It was her 120^th career match in double-figures and eighth match with 30-or-more digs.
