HOUSTON – The University of Houston women's basketball team opens the 2024-25 campaign against UTRGV at 7 p.m., Tuesday inside Fertitta Center.
Fans who present their "I Voted" sticker will receive free admission into the game against the Vaqueros. Fans in attendance will also receive a 2024-25 schedule poster while supplies last.

THE GAME
- While most teams open the 2024-25 season on Monday, Houston will open its season on Tuesday alongside four Big 12 teams: UCF, West Virginia, TCU and Cincinnati.
- Houston and UTRGV will meet on Tuesday for the sixth time in program history and the first time in Fertitta Center.
- The Cougars lead the all-time series, 4-1.
- This will be the second consecutive year that Houston has opened the season at home
- Houston is 19-5 in home openers.
- Head Coach Ronald Hughey is 3-0 in home openers and 5-5 overall.
- This marks the second all-time meeting between Head Coaches Ronald Hughey and Lane Lord.
- Houston won the most recent meeting against UTRGV, 68-52, in Edinburg, Texas (Nov. 30, 2016).
- The Vaqueros' lone victory over the Cougars resulted in a 55-45 win inside Hofheinz Pavilion (Dec. 20, 2015).
- Houston returns All-Big 12 Conference Honorable Mention selection Laila Blair for the 2024-25 season.
- Myyah West and Jacob Coltrane were elevated to assistant coaches in addition to their current roles for the 2024-25 season.
- The Cougars return five players from the 2023-24 roster: Kierra Merchant, Gigi Cooke, Laila Blair, Avalon Miller and Peyton McFarland.
- Cooke is expected to make her Houston debut after suffering an injury before the start of last season.
