Emanuel Sharp, LJ Cryer record 20+ point games in Las Vegas on Saturday Night
LAS VEGAS (AP) – Junior guard Emanuel Sharp scored 23 and graduate guard LJ Cryer posted 21 points as the #6/7 University of Houston Men's Basketball program dropped an overtime contest, 73-70 to San Diego State in the Third-Place game of the Players Era Festival inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday evening.
The Aztecs had a quartet of double-figure scorers with Miles Byrd leading the way with 18 points. Jared Coleman-Jones scored 16, Pharaoh Compton tallied 13 points and Nick Boyd had 12, including a driving layup that was ultimately the difference in the game.
Byrd made two free throws with 13.4 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 65. Sharp missed a baseline jumper with one second remaining to send the into overtime.
Cryer and Sharp combined for nine of the Cougars 11 3-pointers, including Cryer's triple to put the Cougars within two in the overtime period.
Gwath made one of two free throws with 12 seconds left to make it a three-point game. Cryer had a chance to tie it but missed a 3-pointer with two seconds left.

• Following Saturday's game, Houston returns to Fertitta Center to play host to Butler in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle inside Fertitta Center on Saturday, Dec. 7.
