Georgiades selected with the fourth pick of the fifth round
HOUSTON – University of Houston libero Kate Georgiades is going pro.
The libero was selected with the fourth pick in the fifth round (36th overall) of the 2024 Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) Draft on Monday.
She became the second Houston player to be drafted by the league, joining Kenna Sauer, who was drafted by Grand Rapids Rise in 2023, and is one of seven players drafted this year from the Big 12 Conference. Georgiades was also one of four liberos to have her name called by a PVF team on Monday.
Georgiades is one of the most decorated players to come through the Houston program. Both a three-time All-American and a three-time conference Libero of the Year, she became one of 27 players at the NCAA Division I level to reach 2,500 career digs last week and is the first to hit the milestone at a Big 12 institution. She now sits at 2,540 collegiate digs, ranking 23rd in NCAA Division I history.
The College Station, Texas, native arrived in Houston for the 2021 season and immediately made an impact with the Cougars. Posting 663 digs in her first year wearing Scarlet and White, Georgiades earned VolleyballMag.com All-America Honorable Mention honors while also being tabbed as The American's Libero of the Year after leading the league in digs per set and tallying 14 20+ dig performances throughout the season.
Outdoing herself, she went on to record 687 digs in the 2022 season, ranking sixth nationally, to earn AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors as well as a unanimous AAC Libero of the Year crown. Her digs tally marked the fifth most in a single season in Houston history and helped Houston as it earned its first conference championship since 1999 and its first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2000. The team went onto win back-to-back five-set matches in the tourney, booking a trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
Georgiades continued to shine as Houston transitioned into the Big 12. Securing her third consecutive Libero of the Year honor, she was also given All-America accolades by both the AVCA and VolleyballMag.com. She ranked third in the league in total digs with 453, improving to second in the conference with 287 digs in league play.
Looking to close out her collegiate career with a bang, Georgiades has tallied 510 digs this season, leading the Big 12, while also posting 5.10 digs per set, a mark that not only leads the Big 12 but also ranks 14th nationally.
Overall, Georgiades has tallied the third most digs in team history with 2,313 while also adding 110 service aces for the Cougars, a mark that ranks as the seventh most in school history.
