PREVIEW: Tennis Takes on ITA Texas Regional Championship

FORT WORTH, Texas – The University of Houston Tennis team travels to Fort Worth, Texas to take on the ITA Texas Regional Championship beginning Thursday at TCU's Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

Action begins Thursday with singles starting at 8 a.m. The full tournament schedule can be found here.

The Cougars open action as sophomores Valeriia Krokhotina and Heta Nuutinen, and junior Gabriela Cortes begin the tournament in the Qualifying Singles Draw at 8 a.m., Thursday.

Singles Main Draw action begins Friday as sophomore Iva Sepa faces Texas State's Kiana Graham at 1 p.m., while fifth-year Santa Strombacha takes on Sofia Franco Salcedo (UIW) and junior Sophie Schouten battles Jeanette Mireles (Texas A&M) with times to be announced.

Doubles play opens Friday when all three Houston doubles teams face off against their respective opponents.

Sepa and Krokhontina open doubles play against Sam Houston's Christine Jevicky/Adithi Venkatakrishnan at 8 a.m. Cortes and Nuutinen face UT Arlington's Nika Novikova/Maria Araoz-Gosn at 8:45 a.m.

Fifth-year Santa Strombacha and junior Sophie Schouten earned a first-round bye and await the winner of UT Arlington's Adela Latalova/Ioana Dumitrescu and Rice's Saara Orav/Nithesa Selvaraj at 9:30 a.m.
