Senior Kateri Poole out for the upcoming season with knee injury
HOUSTON – University of Houston Women's Basketball senior guard Kateri Poole will miss the 2024-25 season after suffering a left knee injury during a weekend scrimmage, Head Coach Ronald Hughey announced Thursday.
"We are devastated for Kateri," Hughey said. "It's a huge loss because Kateri has worked so hard, and we were looking forward to having Kateri on the court this season. We will be there to support Kateri every step of the way during the recovery process. We know Kateri will be back stronger than ever next season."
Poole, a 5'8" guard from Bronx, N.Y., transferred to Houston ahead of the 2024-25 season this season after previously attending LSU, where they were a vital member of the 2023 National Championship team. Before LSU, Poole spent two seasons at Ohio State. During the 2021-22 season, Poole played in 25 games and posted 13 starts, averaging 4.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists in 16.1 minutes per game. The guard saw action in all three NCAA Tournament games during Ohio State's Sweet 16 run.
Poole played in all 20 games of their freshman season and started the final five. Averaging 6.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists as a freshman, Poole was named to the Big Ten Conference All-Freshman team.
Poole is a former five-star recruit and espnW HoopGurlz's No. 24 overall player in the 2020 class. The guard earned several accolades during high school, including being named Miss New York by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York and was named to the first team All-State in 2020 and second team in 2019. Poole was the MVP of the Kyrie Invitational at the Barclays Center in December 2019.
