Cougars battle #23 Baylor in Fertitta Center before heading to Orlando for meeting with Knights
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Volleyball team returns to Fertitta Center to clash with #23 Baylor on Wednesday for its sixth match against a ranked opponent this season before heading to the Sunshine State for a meeting with its long-time conference rival UCF in Orlando on Friday.
The Cougars start their week with a 7 p.m., Wednesday, first serve against #23 Baylor. The match is Houston's Red Out night with fans encouraged to wear red for the battle with its in-state rival. The first 250 fans in attendance will receive red shirts. Fans who wear red and buy tickets at the box office will receive discounted admission ($8 for adults, $4 for youth).
Houston wraps up the week by going back on the road, heading to the theme park capital of the world for a 6 p.m. CT, Friday, first serve against UCF.

- Graduate libero Kate Georgiades ranks second in the Big 12 Conference, second in the state of Texas and 26th nationally with 4.85 digs per set. She's also tallied 21 consecutive matches with double-digit digs, including a program-record tying 36 in a four-set match at Arizona last Friday.
- Graduate setter Annie Cooke is moving up multiple program career record lists. She currently sits in third in service aces (129) and in assists (3,559) all-time rankings. She's also played in the eighth most matches (129) and fifth most sets (476) in program history.
- Georgiades is also making moves on Houston record lists. She currently ranks third all-time in digs (2,123) and eighth in aces (104).
- Among active players, Georgiades ranks third in Division I and first in the state of Texas and in the Big 12 in career digs with 2,350.
- Houston has three wins this season against teams that made last year's NCAA Tournament with five matches against 2023 NCAA Tournament teams still remaining on the schedule, including Wednesday's tilt against Baylor.
- Georgiades earned her second Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors of the season on Tuesday. The College Station, Texas, native tallied 53 digs last week, averaging 7.57 per set. The mark included 36 against Arizona, which tied Houston's four-set digs record, originally set by Georgiades on Nov. 22, 2021. The mark is the sixth-most by an NCAA Division I player in a four-set match this year and the most digs by a Big 12 player in any match this season.
- Among active NCAA players, Georgiades' collegiate career mark of 2,350 digs is the third most, ranking first among Texas schools and in the Big 12 and sits at seventh across all NCAA divisions, while her 4.68 digs per set average is ninth among active NCAA Division I players, again leading the Big 12 while ranking second in Texas.
- Houston faces one of the toughest schedules in the country with nine of its opponents currently ranked in the AVCA Top 25.
