Cougars tip off vs. Longhorns at 8 p.m., inside Moody Center in Austin, Texas
AUSTIN, Texas – Winners of its last four games, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program quickly returns to action when it meets Big 12-rival rv/rv Texas at 8 p.m., Monday inside Moody Center.
#4/4 Houston enters Monday's game following a 74-52 win over rv/rv Kansas State inside Fertitta Center on Saturday afternoon. Senior point guard Jamal Shead scored 17 points and led the Cougars with three assists and a pair of steals while senior forward J'Wan Roberts totaled 14 points with six rebounds, including five offensive boards and a pair of steals.
With his fifth board against the Wildcats, Roberts reached the 700-rebound total in his award-winning career and became only the 21st Cougars to reach that historic total.
Roberts wasn't the only Cougar to reach a milestone in Saturday's game. With that win, Head Coach Kelvin Sampson collected the 750th victory in his career and continued to rise in the NCAA records book where he ranks 24th among coaches with 10+ years at the NCAA Division I level.
This season, senior guard LJ Cryer continues to lead the Cougars and rank ninth in the Big 12 with 15.2 points per game. The Katy, Texas, native led all players with 23 points and five 3-pointers in Houston's road win at #21/19 BYU on Tuesday and stand among the league's Top-Eight leaders in both 3-point field goal percentage (38.7, 8th) and 3-point field goals per game (3.0, 2nd).
Shead ranks among the league leaders in assist per game (5.9, 3rd), steals per game (2.3, 5th) and assist-turnover ratio (2.92, 2nd).
