PREVIEW: Track & Field Returns to Yeoman Fieldhouse for Robert Platt Invitational

Two-day meet begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday, 10 a.m. Saturday
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track and Field program looks to its second home meet as it hosts 20 schools at the Robert Platt Invitational on Friday and Saturday inside Yeoman Fieldhouse, with action beginning at 9:30 a.m., Friday, and 10 a.m., Saturday.
ABOUT ROBERT PLATT
The University of Houston community lost a beloved friend and teammate on June 26, 2019, when Robert Platt Jr. passed away. Platt was a pole vaulter for the Houston Track & Field program, competing in 24 meets for the Cougars. Prior to coming to Houston, he attended George Ranch High School and earned a third-place finish at the 6A State Championships during his senior season. Outside of athletics, Robert Platt Jr. was an active member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity at Houston.
His mother, Kaddie Platt, led the Houston Volleyball program from 2012 to 2019.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cougars finished their first road meet in winning fashion, posting 11 podium finishes and four top-25 times in the country at the Ted Nelson Invitational on Saturday in College Station, Texas.
Senior sprinter Shaun Maswanganyi finished first in the 60-meter to grab the number 19 time in the nation. Graduate runner Kelly-Ann Beckford ran to first in the 800-meter with a time of 2:07.09 to finish with the 11th best time in the country and graduate distance runner Claire Meyer crossed the finish line first in the 3000-meter with a time of 9:43.21.
Graduate thrower Ethan Marshall earned second in the weight throw to move up to fourth all-time in the school record book.
ALL EYES ON SHAUN
Spectators must enter through the front door of the Athletics/Alumni Center. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children (ages 3-12). Children under 2 are free but must sit in the lap of a parent or guardian and may not occupy a seat or obstruct the sight lines of other guests. Groups of 10 or more may purchase tickets for $5 per person.

- Olympic finalist and NCAA All-American senior Shaun Maswanganyi returns for the Cougars for his senior season.
- Maswanganyi was named to the 2024 Men's Preseason Watch List for The Bowerman, the USTFCCCA announced earlier this month.
- Maswanganyi finished first in the 60-meter with a time of 6.65 at the Ted Nelson Invitational, a time good enough to land him number 19 in the nation.
- The 10-time NCAA All-American is making his career Watch List debut and is the fourth Houston man to make the Watch List, joining Cameron Burrell (2017, 2018), Elijah Hall (2018) and Kahmari Montgomery (2019).
- In 2023, Maswanganyi earned All-America First-Team honors in the 60-meter dash, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. The senior set the school record in the 100-meter dash at the 2023 NCAA Championships with a time of 9.91.
- At Houston's final American Athletic Conference Championships, Maswanganyi won the Most Valuable Performance award, claiming titles in the 200-meter and 60-meter dash.
- At the Outdoor Conference Championships, Maswanganyi earned first place in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and ran the anchor leg of Houston's ninth-consecutive 400-meter relay title.
