Mouton Takes First on Day One of Robert Platt Invitational

Meet action continues Saturday at 10 a.m.
HOUSTON – Freshman Michaela Mouton's 400-meter win highlighted the first day of the Robert Platt Invitational inside Yeoman Fieldhouse on Friday.

The Killeen, Texas, native clocked a 53.21 in the 400-meter to earn the first-place finish for the Cougars this weekend. This mark landed the freshman at the No. 15 spot in the nation.

Graduate Grant Levesque leads Houston in second place in the heptathlon with 3,103 points with three events remaining. The El Paso, Texas, native recorded a new personal best in the 60-meter with a 6.77.

In the men's triple jump, senior David Ajama leaped to second place at 15.63m for the No. 18 mark in the nation. Junior Kevin Snyder followed in third place with a 15.40m.

Freshman Laney Kucera picked up her second career podium after clearing a 3.70m in the pole vault for third place.

Graduate Ethan Marshall grabbed fourth in the men's weight throw with a distance of 18.98m. Marshall is now third all-time in school history with this mark.

UP NEXT
Houston will continue action on the final day of the Robert Platt Invitational on Saturday, beginning with the heptathlon at 10 a.m., field events at 11 a.m., and running events at 1:30 p.m.

Miracle Thompson, Ali Mack and Tairah Johnson are set to compete in the semifinals of the women's 60m hurdles. On the men's side, De'Vion Wilson and Jairius Burton secured spots in the men's 60m hurdles semifinals.

The men's 60m will feature two Cougars as Louie Hinchliffe and Davonte Burnett sealed semifinal spots in the event.

ABOUT ROBERT PLATT
The University of Houston community lost a beloved friend and teammate on June 26, 2019, when Robert Platt Jr. passed away. Platt was a pole vaulter for the Houston Track & Field program, competing in 24 meets for the Cougars. Prior to coming to Houston, he attended George Ranch High School and earned a third-place finish at the 6A State Championships during his senior season. Outside of athletics, Robert Platt Jr. was an active member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity at Houston.
His mother, Kaddie Platt, led the Houston Volleyball program from 2012 to 2019.

TICKETS AND PARKING FOR HOUSTON TRACK AND FIELD
Spectators must enter through the front door of the Athletics/Alumni Center. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children (ages 3-12). Children under 2 are free but must sit in the lap of a parent or guardian and may not occupy a seat or obstruct the sight lines of other guests. Groups of 10 or more may purchase tickets for $5 per person.
