Twenty former Houston standouts on NFL rosters to begin 2023 season
HOUSTON – Former University of Houston standouts jumped out to a strong start as 20 Cougars were represented at the highest level as the 2023 NFL season got underway last Thursday.

Ed Oliver | Buffalo Bills | L, 22-16 at Jets

- Started on the defensive line, recording two tackles and one tackle for loss over 40 defensive snaps.
Josh Jones | Houston Texans | L, 25-9 at Ravens
- Started at left guard, playing 80 total snaps including 77 on offense.
Marcus Jones | New England Patriots | L, 25-20 vs Eagles
- Jones once again did it all for the Patriots in his second season in New England with a 21-yard punt return, a fumble recovery and a tackle over 34 total snaps.
Case Keenum | Houston Texans | L, 25-9 at Ravens
- Did not play.
Ed Oliver | Buffalo Bills | L, 22-16 at Jets
- Started at defensive tackle making five tackles, fourth-most on the team, with half a sack, one tackle for loss and three hurries in 38 snaps. Helped Bills limit the Jets offense to three points in the first half.
Gervarrius Owens | New York Giants | L, 40-0 vs Cowboys
- Did not play.
Derek Parish | Jacksonville Jaguars | Practice Squad
Elandon Roberts | Pittsburgh Steelers | L, 30-7 vs 49ers
- Started at right inside linebacker and finished second on team with seven tackles and two tackles for losses over 43 snaps.
Kody Russey | New England Patriots | Practice Squad
Grant Stuard | Indianapolis Colts | L, 31-21 vs Jaguars
- One special teams tackle in 18 snaps played – all on special teams.
Clayton Tune | Arizona Cardinals | L, 20-16 at Commanders
- Did not play.
