Senior All-American leads at -10 after Second Round; Final Round tees off Tuesday morning
CHOUDRANT, La. – University of Houston senior All-American Santiago De La Fuente used a bogey-free 66 to move into the individual lead following the Second Round of the Argent Financial Classic on Monday afternoon.
De La Fuente started his day off No. 10 with a par and then drained birdies on each of the next three holes. After three more pars, he sank another birdie on the 561-yard, par-5 17th hole and enjoyed a birdie on the par-5 second hole early in his second nine.
In the afternoon session, the Guadalajara, Mexico, native drained six birdies, including three on his first four holes, on the way to a bogey-free 66. With his final birdie of the day on the 546-yard, par-5 ninth hole, he broke out of tie for the individual lead with Middle Tennessee's Owen Stamper.
As a team, the Cougars bettered their First-Round total by five shots with a 284 and were tied for sixth with UAB and Rice at 3-under 573.
Junior Wolfgang Glawe joined De La Fuente among the Top-25 leaders after the Second Round and was tied for 22nd at even-par 144.
Playing as an individual, junior Jacob Borow joined De La Fuente under par on Monday with a 2-under 70 and was tied for 22nd at 144. The Lake Jackson, Texas, native started his day with a bogey on No. 10 but closed out his first nine with eight straight pars.
Borow started his second nine on fire with birdies on No. 1 and No. 3 surrounding an eagle on the par-5 second hole. He added his final birdie of the day on No. 6 to move up 17 places in the standings.
Sophomore Hudson Weibel fired a 70 Monday, thanks to five birdies, including back-to-back efforts to open his second nine at Nos. 1-2, and was tied for 37th at 146.
Sophomore Ruben Lindsay was tied for 61st at 149 while junior Laurenz Schiergen was tied for 85th at 154.
Central Arkansas held the team lead at 563 to stand five strokes ahead of Southern Miss. Host Louisiana Tech was in third at 569 while UT Arlington (571) completed the Top-Four leaders. Middle Tennessee (576), and Abilene Christian (580) rounded out the Top 10.
Central Arkansas' Mark Stockdale stood in third at 136 on the individual leaderboard with Southern Miss' Supakorn Amornchaichan in fourth at 138.
The tournament concludes with the Final Round beginning Tuesday morning.

PAIRINGS
For Tuesday's Final Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Rice and Middle Tennessee beginning off No. 1.
Schiergen will start the day at 8:10 a.m., with Lindsay (8:20 a.m.), Weibel (8:30 a.m.), Glawe (8:40 a.m.) and De La Fuente (8:50 a.m.) following. Borow begins off No. 1 at 8 a.m., Tuesday.

Following the Argent Financial Classic, the Cougars will compete in two different tournaments. Houston will compete as a team at the Wake Forest Intercollegiate at Chicago Highlands Club in Westchester, Ill., on Sept. 18-19.
In a recent addition to the team's schedule, the Cougars will send four student-athletes to compete as individuals at the Papago Individual Event at Papago Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz., on Sept. 18-19.
From there, Houston will face Sam Houston in a 36-hole match play event during the Robert Steele Cup at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Texas, on Oct. 3. This also is a recent addition to the Cougars' fall schedule.
