
Soccer Picks Up Home Win Against Tarleton State, 4-1

Cougars improve to 3-0-1 on the season
Houston (3-0-1) started the day off with a goal in the 36th minute as junior forward Ramsey Davis scored her first goal as a Cougar, assisted by freshman midfielder Aryanna Jimison.
In the 40th minute, graduate forward Allie Byrd picked up her second goal of the season off an assist from junior defender Sofia Weber, as Byrd shot the ball from inside the box to give Houston the 2-0 lead.
Less than a minute later, Tarleton State (2-1-1) answered back as Jimison picked up a yellow card on a foul against Jaycie Bass resulting in a free kick for the Texans. Rylee Low found the back of the net to score the lone goal of the match for the Texans.
Early in the second half, the Cougars picked up the offensive pressure as sophomore forward Cameryn Maddox netted her third goal in four days with an assist from Caitlyn Matthews in the 46th minute to give Houston the 3-1 advantage.
With a 3-1 lead in hand, Matthews joined the scoring frenzy, netting her third goal of the season inside the 53rd minute, extending the lead for the Cougars. Junior defender Kaylee Dressback picked up her second career assist in the goal.
Senior goalkeeper Mikaela Gracia made her season debut after being sidelined during the 2022 season, posting two saves and earning the victory for the Cougars.
Eight different Cougars recorded shots during the game, giving Houston a 16-5 shot advantage.
UP NEXT
The Cougars remain in Houston as they travel to Holloway Field to face Rice at 7 p.m., Thursday. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
Houston then will begin a three-match homestand at the Carl Lewis International Complex as it hosts Louisiana Tech (Sept. 3) for First Responders Day, Houston Christian (Sept. 7) for Pups on the Pitch and Texas State (Sept. 10) for Senior Night.
