Houston posts back-to-back games with five goals scored

Houston's (2-0-1) first goal of the match came in the 21st minute as junior defender Anna Reysa found the ball to begin the counterattack, carrying the ball across the field to find sophomore forward Cameryn Maddox on the right-hand side to open the score.

Stephen F. Austin (1-2) answered eight minutes later to score its lone goal of the match in the 29th minute as Caelynn January scored her first of the season.

The Cougars added another tally in the 39th minute to give Houston the 2-1 lead when graduate forward Allie Byrd scored off a header, assisted by freshman forward Kyrsten Kizer. This marks Byrd's first goal as a Cougar and 23rd career goal.

Houston quickly found its third goal of the match early in the second half as Maddox scored her second of the evening, followed by an assist from junior midfielder Juliet Moore.

For a second consecutive match, senior midfielder Caitlyn Matthews scored from distance in the 63rd minute to solidify the lead for the Cougars.

Junior defender Jaden Masters scored her first collegiate goal in the 70th minute off an assist from Matthews to give Houston the victory. This also marks Masters' second career appearance after playing her first career minutes against Washington (Aug. 17, 2023).

The Cougars now lead the all-time series against the Lumberjacks, 6-4-2.

Houston will close out its August home slate at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, as it hosts Tarleton State for Dads & Daughters Day. The match will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, with live stats available here.
