Soccer Set to Open Season Thursday at Washington

Houston will take on the Huskies for the first time in program history
SEATTLE – The University of Houston Soccer program will officially kick off its 2023 season at 9 p.m. (CT), Thursday with a match against Washington at Husky Soccer Stadium in Seattle, Wash. The game will be streamed on Pac-12 Insider with Elise Woodward calling the match. Live stats are available here.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Washington is entering its fourth season under Head Coach Nicole Van Dyke. Last season, the Huskies posted an overall record of 10-6-3.

This will be the first time in program history that Houston faces Washington.

ABOUT THE COUGARS
The Cougars welcome back 13 student-athletes from the 2022 season along with the addition of 10 freshmen and 11 transfers. The Cougars return 2022 American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team selection Alex Whitcraft, who started in every match for Houston last season and posted two assists.

Second year Head Coach Jaime Frias gained valuable experience in the transfer portal, with the spring pickups of Olivia Dietrich, Ramsey Davis, Alexis Fowlkes, Juliet Moore, Bri Hilsenteger, Hailey Stodden and Amanda Walsh.

Frias completed his 2023 squad with the signings of Allie Byrd, Jada Gibson, Cameryn Maddox and Sofia Weber in May. Maddox was named to the 2022 West Coast Conference All-Freshman Team after leading the Toreros in scoring with three goals and two assists.

Of the 11 transfers, seven join Houston from Power 5 conferences (Big 12, SEC, ACC and Pac-12).

The Cougars kick off their home slate at the Carl Lewis International Complex as they host Southeastern Louisiana 1 p.m., Sunday. The game will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ with Matt Pedersen (play-by-play) and Alex Parra (analyst) calling the action.

Fans in attendance will receive "H-Town Hustle" stickers while supplies last.

Students will be able to claim one ticket at no cost to all home soccer matches. Students can claim their tickets by presenting their student IDs at the gate.

Single game tickets are now available to purchase for $10 per match. Season tickets are also available to purchase for only $42 with family plans (four season tickets) starting at $100. Â
