Transfer from Kansas State will compete as a junior in 2023-24 with two years of eligibility
HOUSTON – Laurenz Schiergen joined the University of Houston Men's Golf program after recently signing a National Letter of Agreement and scholarship agreement, Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke announced Monday.
Schiergen – whose name is pronounced Lor-Inns Sheer-Gen (G as in good) – competed for his first two collegiate seasons at Kansas State before transferring to Houston. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
During his time at Kansas State, Schiergen competed in 15 tournaments, compiling a 72.35 scoring average with three Top-10 finishes, seven Top-20 showings and 22 rounds of par or better in 43 total rounds.
"Laurenz has been a tremendous player for the German National Team and has had a great collegiate career," Dismuke said. "He will be an immediate impact player for us. We look forward to him adding depth and experience to our roster."
A native of Cologne, Germany, Schiergen competed at Kansas State from 2021-23. As a freshman in 2021-22, he played in eight tournaments and finished among the Top-20 leaders four times, including a career-best fourth-place finish at the Mossy Oak Invitational, thanks to a career-low 68 in the Second Round.
As a sophomore in 2022-23, he competed in seven tournaments with three Top-20 finishes, including a ninth-place showing at the Oregon State Invitational during the fall campaign.
Schiergen was an award-winning junior player before entering the collegiate ranks and was a member of the German National Team. He won the 2018 Sir Henry Cooper Masters by 10 shots at 14-under par and finished 13th at the 2019 European Boys Team Championship.
But before joining Kansas State, Schiergen served for two years in the German Army.
