Game Notes | Houston | American | Cincinnati |
SERIES WINS. The Cougars have now secured seven-straight series conference wins. The last time the Cougars had won their first seven-conference series was in 2006. With a series win against Cincinnati, Houston will have won all of its conference three-game series (min. 3 series) in a season for the first time in 77 years of baseball. Outside of the conference match ups, Houston's series wins dates back to the Minnesota contest when the Cougars swept the series from March 17-19.
10+ DAYS. In 28 games this season, the Cougars have tallied 10+ hits including all the last four while registering 15+ hits in nine games. As well, Houston has scored 10+ runs in 14 games this season.
NATIONAL RANKINGS. The Cougars are currently ranked eighth in the country in double plays turned with 48. While also being No. 10 nationally in fielding percentage at .981. Houston has been error free in 28 games this season.
FIRST PLACE COOGS. The Cougars maintained their first place position in the American Conference standings with a three-game sweep of Tulane. East Carolina is only half a game behind Houston meaning the Cougars need to match or exceed the Pirates wins to maintain the first-place seed.
CONFERENCE CHAMP TITLE. In its final season in the American Conference, Houston is hoping to close out the season with its fourth regular season conference title. The Cougars won their last regular season conference title in 2018.
SERIES HISTORY. Last season, the Cougar dropped the series against Cincinnati winning one game against the Bearcats. However, Houston holds the overall series record and the home record.
LAST TIME OUT. The finale of the Don Sanders Cup was canceled due to weather. Previously, Houston completed its sweep of Tulane.
MURRAY MANIA. Two-way player Justin Murray has made his mark on the Houston baseball program. The junior leads the team and conference with 9 saves while also being a threat at the plate. The transfer is currently undefeated on the mound and leads the team in triples, wins, saves, games finished and second in batting average, slugging percentage, runs, hits, RBI and stolen bases. Murray has been perfect and the plate two times this season against Memphis (5-5) and Tulane (4-4) and was named Conference Player of the Week after last week.
SENIOR WEEKEND. This weekend, the Cougars will celebrate its five seniors. Ian McMillan, Maddux Miller, Brandon Uhse, Braden Forsyth and Drew Bianco will be honored.
