SERIES HISTORY. Houston returns to Orlando for the first time since 2021 to take on UCF for the 52th time. The Knights and the Cougars last met in the conference tournament last season where Houston and UCF faced off for the final spot in the American Conference title game. A three-run home run from Anthony Tulimero provided the boost Houston needed for its title game appearance.
LAST TIME OUT. The Cougars fell in their final home midweek game to Lamar. It was the first time Houston has dropped a midweek game in nearly a month. Â
TOP OF THE CONFERENCE. After beating Memphis on Sunday, the Cougars are currently the top team in the American Athletic Conference. With 8-4 conference records, both Houston and Wichita State are tied for the first place seed, however the Cougars hold the tie breaker against the Shockers after beating them earlier in the season. The two teams will meet one more time before the conference tournament.
10+ DAYS. In 21 games this season, the Cougars have tallied 10+ hits including nine out of the last 13 games. As well, Houston has scored 10+ runs in 11 games this season.
SERIES WINS. With the series win against Memphis, Houston has won four-straight conference series match ups. The last time the Cougars had won their first four-conference series was in 2006 when they won every series. Outside of the conference match ups, Houston's series wins dates back to the Minnesota contest when the Cougars swept the series from March 17-19.
STABLE STREAKS. Zach Arnold extended his reached base streak to 37 games. He has reached in every single game he has played in while notching a 10 game-hit streak that started in the final game at Wichita State.
5-FOR-5. In the game against Memphis, Justin Murray went a perfect 5-for-5. He recorded a home runand four singles. The five hits were a career-high for the junior who was previously on a 16-game hit streak.
ONE-HIT SHUTOUT. Last Friday night, Josh Ekness and Maddux Miller combined for a one-hit shutout against Memphis. It was Houston's first combined one-hitter since 2019 (Texas A&M) and first shutout since 2019 (UCF).
DOUBLE PLAY. The Cougars are currently ranked second in the country in double plays turned with 42. Houston has turned multiple double plays in 14 games including four against HCU.
