SERIES HISTORY. This will be the 20th meeting between the two teams with Houston holding the advantage. This will be the only time the two teams meet after splitting last seasons two games. In the past five match ups, four of the games have been decided by two runs or less.
LAST TIME OUT. Houston earned the series win against Memphis with a 11-1 win on Sunday. The Cougars shutout the Tigers until the bottom of the seventh to keep the game alive as Houston had scored 10 runs by the top of the seventh inning.
TOP OF THE CONFERENCE. After beating Memphis on Sunday, the Cougars are currently the top team in the American Athletic Conference. With 8-4 conference records, both Houston and Wichita State are tied for the first place seed, however the Cougars hold the tie breaker against the Shockers after beating them earlier in the season. The two teams will meet one more time before the conference tournament.
SERIES WINS. With the series win against Memphis, Houston has won four-straight conference series match ups. The last time the Cougars had won their first four-conference series was in 2006 when they won every series. Outside of the conference match ups, Houston's series wins dates back to the Minnesota contest when the Cougars swept the series from March 17-19.Â
STABLE STREAKS. Zach Arnold extended his has reached base to 36 games over the week. He has reached in every single game he has played in while notching a nine game-hit streak that started in the final game at Wichita State.
5-FOR-5. In the game against Memphis, Justin Murray went a perfect 5-for-5. He recorded a home run, single.........The five hits were a career-high for the junior who was previously on a 16 game hit streak.
ONE-HIT SHUTOUT. On Friday night, Josh Ekness and Maddux Miller combined for a one-hit shutout against Memphis. It was Houston's first combined one-hitter since 2019 against Texas A&M and first shutout since 2019 against UCF.
DOUBLE PLAY. The Cougars are currently ranked seventh in the country in double plays turned at 40.
