Second Former Top 100 Recruit Signs with Houston

Hughey signs fifth transfer, fourth Division I transfer this spring
HOUSTON – The Houston Women's basketball roster makeover continues with the addition of Gia Cooke who signed a valid financial aid agreement on Thursday, the Cougars fourth Division I transfer.
Cooke, a 5-9 guard from Clinton, Maryland, played one season at Maryland appearing in 25 games off the bench for Terrapins. The guard bolstered Maryland's roster in route to an Elite Eight appearance before losing to then undefeated South Carolina.
The Maryland native recorded a career-high of 10 points and two steals against DePaul. Cooke provided support off the bench in Maryland's tournament run with eight points across its four tournament games.
The former four-star recruit was the 52nd ranked prospect in 2022 on ESPN's Top 100 coming out of Bishop McNamara High School. In her senior year at McNamara, she averaged 15.0 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Nicknamed Hollywood, Cooke will join the Cougars for their first season of Big 12 conference play.
Head coach Ronald Hughey has now signed five transfers this spring with Cooke marking his third Power Five Conference portal grab.
