Houston adds Diawara from junior college ranks; averaged 18.4 points per game, 16.1 rebounds per game
HOUSTON – Houston women's basketball head coach Ronald Hughey announced the signing of junior college transfer Djessira Diawara from Clarendon College on Thursday.

A 6-2 forward from Bamako, Mali, Diawara was named a 2023 NJCAA All-American Third Team selection after averaging 18.4 points per game on 63.8 percent shooting from the field and 16.1 rebounds per game in her one season at Clarendon.
Diawara pulled down double-digit rebounds in all 31 games for the Bulldogs in 2022-23 and had five games with 20-plus boards.
The Mali, native scored a career-high 32 points and added 20 rebounds in a 98-68 win against Odessa College.
The forward was named All-Texas First Team by Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball publication for its non-DI women's basketball awards.
Diawara started her collegiate career at Salt Lake Community College where she played in 35 games over two seasons for the Bruins from 2020-22. In Diawara's first career start in 2021, the forward scored 14 points and brought down 10 rebounds before moving to the bench and playing sparingly the rest of the season.
Diawara has two years of eligibility remaining and is the second spring signing this season for Hughey and the Cougars. Hughey signed Maliyah Johnson from Pittsburg in March.
