SERIES HISTORY. The Sooners will make their first appearance on Houston's campus since 2000. Oklahoma faced the Cougars in Houston during the 2008 season but the game was played at Minute Maid Park. In 2021, Houston made the trip to Norman for a three-game series.
LAST TIME OUT. The Cougars earned a monumental win against PVAMU plating 17 runs on 17 hits. Where freshman Thomas Lyssy shined with 4 RBI and Graysen Drezek earned the win.
COLLEGE WORLD SERIES. This will be the first of two teams that the Cougars will face in the next 5 days that participated in the 2022 College World Series. The Sooners were the runner-up while Texas A&M also made an appearance.
CLASSIC CADE. Sophomore Cade Citelli will make his fourth-straight Friday night start. Named the Opening Night starter, Citelli has be a reliable starting pitcher for the Cougars. He set a career-highs in innings pitched against UTRGV (6.1) and strikeouts (5).
DOUBLE-DIGIT STRIKEOUTS. In back-to-back midweek games, the Cougars' pitching staff has retired double-digit batters. Against Texas Southern, Houston struck out 14 followed by 11 against PVAMU. Between the two games, Travis Phelps retired 6, followed by Josh Ekness who had five.
FINDING THE RIGHT ONE. The Cougars have had 10 different starting lineups since the beginning of the season, relying on two of them twice. However, captains Anthony Tulimero and Ian McMillan have been a part of the lineup in every single game. Other familiar starters including Zach Arnold, Justin Murray, Brandon Burckel and Alex Lopez.
POWER 5 OPPONENTS. This will be the second time a Power 5 opponent will make a trip to Houston. The Cougars first hosted Cal for Opening Weekend before welcoming Oklahoma this weekend. Houston also played P5 team Utah in the Kleberg Classic ultimately beating the Utes 13-5.
TWO-WAY. Houston currently has two players who play on both sides. Starting pitcher Malachi Lott is also a regular in Houston's batting lineup in the outfield. As well, first baseman Justin Murray can also pitch. He made his debut on the mound for the Cougars on Sunday against UTRGV.
STEALTHY STEALING. Entering the eighth game of the season, the Cougars were a perfect 12 for 12 on stolen bases. Houston now sits at 23 for 25 stolen bases on the season. The charge is by Malachi Lott and Brandon Burckel who are both 5 for 5. The Cougars are currently ranked No. 34 in the nation in stolen bases and No. 33 in stolen bases per game at 1.92.
SPORTS CENTER TOP 10
Against Incarnate Word, graduate transfer Drew Bianco made an over-the-wall catch, robbing a home run. The play was picked up by ESPN, Sports Center and the MLB among others. It was the second week in a row that Bianco had a play on the Sport Center's Top 10 list. The week previous Bianco stole a home run against the Golden Bears' Caleb Lomavita.
