Tennis Drops Match Against Memphis

Blanca Cortijo Parreno, Laura Slisane pick up singles points against Tigers
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Houston Tennis program competed at Tulane's City Park Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon, falling to American Athletic Conference opponent Memphis, 5-2.

Houston (8-5) picked up two singles points, while Memphis (4-6) claimed the doubles point along with four singles points. Houston will have a new opportunity to pick up a win at 9 a.m., Sunday against Southeastern Louisiana on the campus of Dillard University.

The Cougars started the day off with a close match of doubles against the Tigers. Memphis took the win on court two after Camila Soares/Monique Woog defeated Blanca Cortijo Parreno and Laura Slisane (6-3).

Houston's Sonya Kovalenko and Azul Pedemonti evened things up on court three following the win against Dolavee Tumthong/Miriam Grosmann (7-5). This marks the pairs fifth consecutive doubles victory of the season. The Tigers escaped with the doubles point after Aran Teixido/Emily Meyer came out on top against Elena Trencheva and Sophie Schouten (7-5).

Slisane earned Houston's first point of the afternoon in a win by retirement on court two against the 2022 American Conference Championship's Most Outstanding Player, Soares (6-4, 3-6, 1-1). Blanca Cortijo Parreno rallied back to give the Cougars the second and final point against the Tigers after defeating Grosmann in three sets (2-6, 6-4, 6-1).
