DON SANDERS CUP. This will be the first of a three game series against San Houston for the Don Sanders Cup. Last season, the Cougars swept the Bearkats taking home the trophy for the third consecutive season. Â Â Â
LAST TIME OUT. Houston closed out its weekend series with a monumental 18-9 win over UTA. The Cougars tallied seven homers in the game, scoring their 18 runs on 20 hits. Â
AMERICAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK. Sophomore outfielder Cameron Nickens earned his first Conference Player of the Week award on Monday. During the week, he had nine runs scored, two doubles, five home runs and nine RBI. The sophomore had at least one home run in each of Houston's victories last week. He also had hits in every game and multiple hits in three contests.
HAPPY HOMER. Zach Arnold tauted three home runs in the game against UTA. The junior hit the three jacks in straight at bats tying a career-high and seven RBI in the game.
REACHING SAFELY. Zach Arnold is currently on a 21 game streak for reaching base safely. Justin Murray has also reached safely in 20 games while Alex Lopez is on an eight game hitting streak.
HOME RUN HAVEN. Last week, the Cougars recorded 14 home runs. Cameron Nickens led the team with five including two in Sunday's game against UTA. Zach Arnold followed with three and Anthony Tulimero notched two while Ian McMillan, Justin Murray, Drew Bianco and Brandon Burckel all had one.
STEALTHY STEALING. Houston sits at 40 for 48 on stolen bases this season moving to No. 19 nationally. Over the week, Houston went a perfect 15 for 15 on stolen bases. The charge is led by Brandon Burckel who is ranked 36th in the nation with 13 stolen bags.Â
PROBABLE PITCHERS. Relief pitcher Brendan O'Donnell is currently ranked No. 18Â in the nation for pitching appearances with 13.
