Cougars face (9) Tigers in Round of 32 at 6:10 p.m., Saturday, inside Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Ala.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala – Winners of 14 of its last 15 games, the #2/1 University of Houston Men's Basketball program continues its NCAA Tournament when it meets (9) Auburn at 6:10 p.m., Saturday, inside Legacy Arena during the Round of 32.
Houston (32-3 • 17-1 American) enters this weekend's game following a 63-52 win over (16) Northern Kentucky on Thursday night. It was the program's fifth straight NCAA Tournament First-Round win.
In the first meeting on the hardwood against the Norse, freshman forward Jarace Walker led the Cougars with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and grabbed three rebounds with a pair of blocked shots. Junior point guard Jamal Shead added 13 points with a game-high six rebounds while junior forward J'Wan Roberts posted his second straight postseason double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
With Thursday's win, the 2022-23 Cougars tied for the second-most wins in Houston single-season history, equaling the mark from the 2021-22 squad. This is the third 30-win season under Head Coach Kelvin Sampson, tying with legendary Hall of Fame Coach Guy V. Lewis for the most in school history.
