Season ticket deposits, premium interest reflect move to Big 12 Conference
HOUSTON – When the Big 12 Conference and the University of Houston jointly released 2023 Football schedules on Tuesday, Jan. 31 – exactly one week ago – it did not take long for Cougar fans to take action ahead of the program's inaugural season in the new league.
In less than four hours following last week's afternoon announcement of visits to TDECU Stadium from national runner-up TCU and Texas, among others, 400+ fans joined the Houston Football Season Ticket Priority Waitlist, and another 250+ premium interest forms were completed in anticipation of Houston's seven-game home slate, which begins Sept. 2 against UTSA.
In the six days following the announcement, fan interest and response for Houston Football season tickets have continued to surge.
"Much like we hoped would be the case based on our schedule, the response from our fans and those in the Houston community has been overwhelming," Houston Vice President for Athletics Chris Pezman said. "We have to make sure we continue to build off that. As we prepare to transition in the fall, this is the time."
Those looking to secure season seats for the 2023 season can do so by clicking here to put down a $75 deposit today or by calling the Houston Athletics Ticket Office at 713‑GO‑COOGS (462‑6647). Season tickets will go on sale Monday, Feb. 20 and additional pricing information will be made available in the coming days.
Houston enters 2023 having won a combined 20 games over the past two seasons including back-to-back bowl victories for the first time since 2014-15. The Cougars return Houston area-natives Alton McCaskill IV, who set UH's true freshman rushing touchdowns record in 2021, and Matthew Golden, who broke the program's true freshman receiving touchdowns record in 2022.
The program's seven home games are the most since 2015. The Cougars host UTSA (Sept. 2), TCU (Sept. 16), Sam Houston (Sept. 23), West Virginia (Oct. 12), Texas (Oct. 21), Cincinnati (Nov. 11) and Oklahoma State (Nov. 18). The matchups against TCU and Texas are the first on the University of Houston campus since 2003, and 2001, respectively.
