When the University of Houston formally accepted its bid to join the Big 12 Conference in Sept. 2021, the move signified a historic step in its nearly century old institutional journey.
On the gridiron, the Big 12 will be the seventh league in which the Cougars have competed. Houston’s award-winning history has featured 141 All-Americans, 30 bowl appearances, 11 conference titles and one Heisman Trophy winner.
As we enter our new conference home on July 1, 2023, we reflect on our storied past and eagerly await the re-kindling of many regional rivalries and matchups against new foes. To those who have been here through it all, from Southwest Conference clashes in The Dome to a return home in Robertson and our current state-of-the-art facility in TDECU Stadium, we sincerely thank you and look forward to our inaugural season together in the Big 12 Conference.
