Farris Wins Title on Second Day of American Championships

Senior diver Chase Farris wins second consecutive 3-meter title
DALLAS – Senior diver Chase Farris captured the University of Houston Swimming & Diving program's fourth straight 3-meter title at the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championships on Tuesday evening from the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.
"Another great day for us," Houston Diving Coach Bob Gunter said. "I'm thrilled with how everyone is performing. We had all six divers in the top-17, with four advancing to finals. Â We had a consolation champion and a conference champion. I couldn't be more pleased. Excited for tomorrow."
After the conclusion of day two, Houston leads with 245 points, followed by FIU (121), East Carolina (113), Florida Atlantic (101), North Texas (75) and SMU (57).

Farris earned her second straight 3-meter title with a six-dive score of 337.65. Her best dive came on her final attempt when she earned a score of 67.50 after completing a 5152B Forward 2 ½ Somersault 1 Twist Pike.
The Mission Viejo, Calif., native earned the program's fourth consecutive and eighth overall American 3-meter title. Farris (2021, 2022) joins Katie Deininger (2021), Lauren Burrell (2018, 2020), Michaela Bouter (2016, 2017) and Taylor Olanski (2015) as the five Cougars to win the 3-meter in all-time American Athletic Conference history.
FIU's Maha Gouda took second with a score of 319.40, while Florida Atlantic's Alicia Mora earned the third spot on the podium with a score of 312.40.

The Cougars added additional points in the event with junior Emilia Waters placing sixth (304.80), senior Jolie Blodgett in seventh (287.30) and junior Hedda Grelz in eighth place (272.65).
In the consolation finals, sophomore Josie Graves took first place with a final score of 293.25. Graves' best dive came on her fourth attempt when she earned a score of 52.50 after completing a 5152B Forward 2 ½ Somersault 1 Twist Pike.

Diving action concludes Wednesday with the platform, while the swimming portion begins with the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay.
